A Rural Retreat.
The partial re-design of a family garden in Hampshire: a tidy, low maintenance space for entertaining
With the Shepherds hut as the main focal point of the garden, the new design brings a cohesive shape and rhythm to the space.
We removed the irregular boundary fence and added an open row of large trellised planters with an elaborate entrance walkway of sculpted columns.
From the entrance, a meandering gravel path leads you up to the Shepherds hut past a seating area under the apple tree enclosed in a hand-built semi-circular screen on the one side and a sweeping deck with up-lighting around the hot tub on the other.
We created an additional seating area to the side of the Shepherds hut with a handmade bench, wall-mounted trellis and an antique French fire pit. Along the length of the trellis planters, we created a wall of fragrant white roses and incorporated white climbing hydrangeas to dress the trellised wall which, together with the existing post and rail fence, we painted black. We added patches of wildflower meadow around the Shepherds hut and apple tree to soften the areas and keeping to the client’s low maintenance brief, we turfed the remaining area.
